      A new technology

    In 1977 a mechanical pressure differential process avoiding the use of heat, freezing, chemical digestion or dehydration is developed. Later to become known as the Cold Cellular-burst technology, thus unlocking the precious active ingredients found in the Ecklonia maxima kelp

      Worldwide patents registered

    In 1978 Cellburst patents are registered worldwide and the Kelpak story begins, with an initial focus into the South African agricultural and home garden markets

      Exploring new territory

    In 1979 Kelp Products partners with the university of KwaZulu-Natal to further its understanding in respect to the active ingredients found in the natural seaweed resource

      First thesis on Kelpak

    In 1983 the first doctoral thesis on Kelpak is published by the University of KwaZulu-Natal confirming the beneficial properties of Kelpak on crops

      Into the international market

    In 1985 Kelpak establishes market dominance in the South African agricultural sector. The first export markets are established in Australia and the Far East

    In 1990 Kelpak expands its presence internationally. Further technical refinements are introduced enhancing increased compatibility with a wider range of spray applications

    In 1995 international trialling accelerates and Kelp Products continues to expand its international distribution networks

    In 1997 Kelp Products is recognised for its continuing achievements by receiving the Western Cape Chamber of Commerce Exporter of the Year Award

    In 1999 Kelpak establishes new markets in the Americas. The expansion of existing markets positions Kelpak as a leader in helping farmers on every continent to achieve better return on investment

    In 2001 Kelpak achieves ISO 9002 quality management system accreditation

      State President’s Award

    In 2002 Kelp Product's export achievements are further acknowledged by the Department of Trade and Industry in receiving the State President's Award for export achievement

      Organic Accreditation

    In 2003, amongst its other organic accreditations, Kelpak's status as an organic agricultural input is further enhanced through its accreditation by the Institute of Marketecology in Switzerland (IMO)

    In 2005 Kelpak's international presence grows and now extends to over 50 countries around the world. The achievement is once more recognised by winning the Western Cape Exporter of the Year Award

    In 2011 Kelpak achieves accreditation by BCS Öko-Garantie GmbH in Nürnberg, Germany, confirming compatibility in organic production

    In 2020 Kelp Products commissions an advanced research and testing lab,   providing daily onsite testing. This new facility ensures a quality end-product with consistent bioactives.
